Discover Alaska leather, an exceptional article from the renowned Italian tannery La Perla Azzurra, a proud member of the “Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale” (Italian Vegetable-Tanned Leather) Consortium.
This cowhide double shoulder leather is vegetable-tanned, a traditional process that ensures its durability, natural aroma, and ability to develop a beautiful patina over time.
What makes Alaska leather truly special is its finishing process. After dyeing, the leather is treated with blown wax(waxed finish) and then shrunk in a drum to ensure the wax penetrates deep into the fibers. As a result of this process, a whitish layer known as “bloom” appears on the surface—a mixture of wax and oils.
- Visual Impact: The bloom gives the leather a unique, somewhat “icy” or “frosty” appearance, making Alaska stand out at first glance.
- Patina Development: Through rubbing or use, this whitish layer gradually wears off, revealing the rich, deep color of the leather underneath. This creates a unique patina, and the leather becomes darker and shinier, lending your product character and a story.
